McNeese Cowboys All-Time Greatest Basketball Players

1. Joe Dumars

Dumars played for McNeese from 1981 to 1985, where he was Southland Player of the Year and was a four-time first-team All-Southland.

He’s the program’s all-time leading scorer (2,607 points). He holds the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the single-season record books at McNeese, headlined by 819 points in 1983-84. 

Dumar also notched 3330 assists (eighth) and 188 steals (third) over his career. 

He averaged 22.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. 

The program retired his No. 4. 

2. Edmond Lawrence

Lawrence played four seasons for McNeese from 1972 to 1976 and recorded 1,986 points (second). 

He was also an excellent rebounder, bringing in 1,212, and blocked 311 shots. 

These are both program records. 

He averaged 19.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. 

Lawrence was named All-Southland four times. 

3. John Rudd

Rudd averaged 12.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game over his career at McNeese from 1974 to 1978. 

He was two-time first-team All-Southland and recorded 1,181 rebounds (second).

He’s second in single-game rebounds with 26 against Rice during the 1975-76 campaign. 

4. Jerome Batiste

Batiste put up 1,707 points (seventh) and 808 rebounds (ninth) over his tenure at McNeese from 1983 to 1987. 

He’s McNeese’s all-time leader in field goal percentage (.572). 

Batiste averaged 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. 

5. Michael Cutright

Cutright played for McNeese from 1985 to 1989, during which he had 151 steals (eighth) and 1.703 points (eighth). 

He averaged 14.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. 

Cutright scored 616 points during the 1988-89 season, seventh in McNeese’s single-season scoring record books. 

He was the MVP of the 1989 Southland Conference Tournament.
