Maryland Terrapins All-Time Greatest Basketball Players

1. Juan Dixon

Dixon played at Maryland from 1998 to 2002, averaging 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game. 

He scored 2,269 points (first in program history) and had 333 steals (second). 

Dixon was a member of the Terrapins’ 2022 national title run, was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, was a consensus first-team All-American, third-team All-American, was the ACC Athlete and Player of the Year, was the Chip Hilton Player of the Year, three-time first-team All-ACC, and he also won the Senior CLASS Award (given to the best student-athlete).  

Fun fact: He was featured on the cover of the video game NCAA Final Four 2003. 

2. Greivis Vasquez

Vasquez played for Maryland from 2006 to 2010, where he won the Bob Cousy Award (given to the college basketball best point guard), was a consensus second-team All-American, was the ACC Player of the Year, was first-team All-ACC and was second-team All-ACC twice. 

Over his four seasons there, he averaged 16 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. 

He scored 2,171 points (second), dished out 772 assists (second), and had 191 steals (seventh). 

3. Len Bias

Bias was an excellent scorer at Maryland, scoring 2,149 points across his four-year career, the third-most in program history. 

He also had two seasons in which he finished in the top five in single-season scoring and is tied for third in single-game scoring with 41 against Duke in the 1985-86 season. 

He was a consensus first-team All-American, consensus second-team All-American, two-time ACC Player of the Year, two-time first-team All-ACC, the ACC Athlete of the Year, and was the ACC Tournament MVP. 

In his senior year, Bias averaged 23.2 points, seven rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. 

4. Joe Smith

Smith was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, but before that, he played at Maryland from 1993 to 1995. 

He was the Naismith College Player of the Year, Associated Press Player of the Year, UPI Player of the Year, won the Adolph Rupp Trophy (given to the top Division 1 player), was a consensus first-team All-American, third-team All-American, ACC Player of the Year, two-time first-team All-ACC, and was the ACC Rookie of the Year. 

As mentioned, Smith played just two seasons, but across the 64 games he appeared in, he averaged 20.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and three blocks per game. 

His 190 blocks in those two seasons are seventh in Maryland history. 

5. Tom McMillen

Coming in at No. 5 on the list, McMillen played at Maryland from 1971 to 1974. 

He averaged 19.4 points or more per season.

His final per-game average across 88 games was 20.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

McMillen was a consensus second-team All-American, a second-team All-American, a three-time third-team All-American, a two-time first-team All-ACC, and a second-team All-ACC. 

McMillen had 859 rebounds (eighth) and scored 1,807 points (ninth).
