Before 2003, it may have been difficult to bet on the Lipscomb Bisons’ NCAA basketball odds, as they were Division II from 1999 to 2003 and the NAIA before that.
Now, as a Division I team, you can do some online sports betting on their basketball betting odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook.
Below, with their sorted history of different levels of competition in mind, I’ll rank the top five Bisons ever.
Who Are the Best Lipscomb Bisons Basketball Players?
| Rank | Player | Position | Bisons Years |
| 1 | John Pierce | F | 1990-1994 |
| 2 | Philip Hutcheson | C | 1986-1990 |
| 3 | Garrison Mathews | G | 2015-2019 |
| 4 | Adnan Hodzic | C | 2007-2011 |
| 5 | Darren Henrie | F | 1986-1990 |
1. John Pierce
Before Lipscomb ascended into Division II, they were at the NAIA level, and Pierce stood out from everyone else.
He played for Lipscomb from 1990 to 1994 and recorded 4,230 points. Not only is that the most points in Lipscomb history, but that’s the most in college basketball, period.
That goes for all levels.
He was a two-time NAIA National Player of the Year and a four-time NAIA All-American, and the school retired his No. 50.
2. Philip Hutcheson
Hutcheson played for Lipscomb from 1986 to 1990 and racked up 4,106 points. This was far and away the Lipscomb record until Pierce came along. He had double-digit points in every game of his Lipscomb career, which spanned 155 games.
His No. 44 was the first retired jersey at the school.
He was a third-team NAIA All-American, second-team NAIA All-American, and first-team NAIA All-American.
3. Garrisons Mathews
Mathews suited up for Lipscomb during their Division I era from 2015 to 2019.
He was the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and three-time first-team All-Atlantic Sun.
Mathews averaged 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.
In the Division I era, he’s the program’s all-time leader in 3-point shots made (360), free throws (608), points per game (18.5), and points (2,478).
He also had 667 rebounds (fifth).
4. Adnan Hodzic
Like Mathews, Hodzic was at Lipscomb during the Division I era, from 2007 to 2011.
He averaged 16.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Among fellow Division I Bisons, he’s the all-time leader in field goals (799), second in points (2,002), second in points per game (16.5), and third in rebounds (840).
Hodzic was the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, and two-time first-team All-Atlantic Sun.
5. Darren Henrie
Henrie played alongside Hutcheson from 1986 to 1990. The squad went 139-16 over his tenure.
He was a two-time NAIA All-American and was first-team NAIA All-American as a senior.
Henrie also holds the single-season record for 3-point shots made with 458.
Among all the levels of competition, he’s the program’s all-time leader in blocks (273) and single-season blocks (87).
