5 Best Florida State Seminoles Basketball Players, Ranked

The Florida State Seminoles have been to one national title game and have advanced to at least the Sweet Sixteen eight times.

1. Bob Sura

Sura played at Florida State from 1991 to 1995 and scored 2,130 points (the most in program history). He scored 675 points during the 1992-93 season, which is the fifth most in a single campaign. 

He also recorded 435 assists (seventh) and 209 steals (fourth). 

Sura was first-team All-ACC, two-time second-team All-ACC, and the ACC Rookie of the Year. The school honoured his No. 3 jersey, raising it in the rafters. 

2. Dave Cowens

Cowens was with Florida State from 1967 to 1970. He recorded 1,340 rebounds (first) and three of the top four single-season rebound marks, including 456 in the 1967-68 season, the most in a single season in school history. 

He averaged 19 points and 17.2 rebounds per game across 78 games.

3. Toney Douglas

Douglas put up 1,655 points (fifth), including 751 during the 2008-09 season (most in a single season). He was there from 2006 to 2009. 

He also had 188 steals (eighth), including 90 during the 2007-08 season (second). 

Douglas was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, third-team All-American, third-team All-ACC, and a two-time ACC All-Defensive Team. 

4. Al Thornton

Thornton played 124 games at Florida State from 2003 to 2007. Over his final two seasons, he averaged 16.1 points per game or more. 

He had 1,521 points (ninth), including 690 during the 2006-07 season (third in a single campaign). 

He was third-team All-American, first-team All-ACC, and second-team All-ACC. 

5. Ron King

King played for Florida State from 1970 to 1973, averaging 19.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He also holds the single-game scoring record, with 46 in 1970-71 against Georgia Southern.

He led the Seminoles to their only national title appearance in 1972. In that game, which they lost, he scored 28 points and six rebounds. 

The school has honoured his No. 33.
