Alabama Crimson Tide All-Time Greatest Basketball Players
1. Brandon Miller
Nowadays, it’s extremely common for players to play one year of college basketball before entering the NBA.
That was the case with Miller, but he was phenomenal even in just one season (2022 to 2023).
He played in 37 games and averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.9 steals.
Miller scored 696 points, the third-most in a single season in Crimson Tide history.
He was a consensus second-team All-American, was the NABC Freshman of the Year, SEC Player of the Year, SEC Rookie of the Year, first-team All-SEC, and won the Wayman Tisdale Award which is given to college basketball’s most outstanding freshman male player.
Miller led Alabama to a No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and went No. 2 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
2. Reggie King
King played four seasons with the Crimson Tide, scoring 2,168 career points, which is a Crimson Tide record. He’s also tied for second in total rebounds (1,279).
As for single-season stats, King scored 747 points in the 1978-79 season, which is second-most.
King was a two-time second-team All-American by the Associated Press, a second-team All-American by the NABC, a two-time SEC Player of the Year, the SEC Male Athlete of the Year, and Alabama’s Mr. Basketball.
Over his career, he averaged 18.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game.
3. Robert Horry
Playing for the Tide from 1988 to 1992, Horry racked up 929 rebounds (ninth), 168 steals (fourth), and 286 blocks (first).
Over his four-year career, Horry averaged 11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.1 blocks per game. He averaged a staggering 3.5 blocks per game as a senior.
He was second-team All-SEC, third-team All-SEC, and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
While on the squad, the Tide reached the Sweet 16 twice and won three SEC tournament titles.
He was selected No. 11 overall in the 1992 NBA Draft and won seven NBA championships.
4. Leon Douglas
Playing for Alabama from 1972 to 1976, Douglas led the 1975 team to the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Douglas scored 1,909 points (third), had 1,279 rebounds (tied for second), and 235 blocks (third) during his Crimson Tide tenure
Over his four-year stint, he averaged 17.2 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. In the 1975-76 season, he averaged 2.8 blocks.
Douglas was a consensus second-team All-American, was named second-team All-American by the NABC, and third-team All-American by the AP and UPI.
5. Mark Sears
As of Feb. 2025, Sears is still playing for the Tide. It’s his fifth season of college basketball and third with Alabama.
With the team, he’s been named a consensus second-team All-American, first-team All-SEC, and second-team All-SEC.
He holds the single-season points record with 797 in the 2023-24 season, averaging 21.5 points per game.
6. Derrick McKey
Playing for the Tide in the mid-1980s, McKey was a second-team All-American, third-team All-American, and the SEC Player of the Year.
His 188 blocks are the eighth-most in program history.
McKey averaged 18.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game in his final season (1986-87).
7. Collin Sexton
Sexton played just one college basketball season with Alabama (2017-18). He averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
He was named SEC Freshman of the Year, was second-team All-SEC, and was a member of the SEC All-Freshman team.
Perhaps his most well-known moment with the team came on Nov. 25, 2017, when he scored 40 points against Minnesota despite Alabama playing just three players on the court for much of the second half.
