The highlight of the Kings’ offseason was acquiring DeRozan in a three-team, sign-and-trade deal involving the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

The Kings landed DeRozan in early July via a three-year, $74 million sign-and-trade deal. They lost Harrison Barnes to the Spurs and Chris Duarte to the Bulls in the deal.

Sacramento Kings 2024-25 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Over 46.5 Wins (-120)

I predict that the Kings will win over 46.5 games.

Domantas Sabonis is a dominant force on the court, capable of muscling his way into the paint on drives to the rim. He can also push the ball in transition, go to the spin move, body up bigger opponents, hit push shot floaters, cut to the basket, throw dunk monster dunks, and go to a turnaround fadeaway jumper. He’ll make an occasional 3-pointer, but he usually does his damage in the paint or midrange.

Sabonis, who has been named to the All-NBA third team in back-to-back seasons, is also an elite rebounder and playmaker, adding to his versatile skill set. His dribble handoffs and screens open up his teammates to inflict damage from downtown. He’ll also kick it out of the post to shooters in the corner, make the skip pass, and feed cutters to the rim.

Sabonis is one of three players with 1,500 points, 1,000 boards, and 500 assists in a season.

De’Aaron Fox is one of the quickest, shiftiest guards the league has to offer, especially with his ball-handling skills and ability to change speeds on a dime. Fox is adept at weaving through traffic and finishing at the rim, going to the floater or pull-up jumper in the midrange, hitting the 3-pointer, stepback, and turnaround fadeaway shot, and throwing down some powerful dunks and acrobatic layups.

Fox is also a solid on-ball defender who can play the passing lanes and close out on shots.

DeRozan should provide a nice balance as a go-to scorer in the midrange, especially when he operates as the ball-handler in pick-and-roll situations with Sabonis.

DeRozan thrives as a pull-up shooter and on drives to the rim, as he also has a turnaround fadeaway and stepback jumper in his arsenal.

Sabonis, Fox, and DeRozan all have a strong tendency to drive downhill and work off pick-and-roll actions, and with Keegan Murray, Malik Monk, and Kevin Huerter stationed behind the arc ready for a pass to come to their shooting pocket, the Kings should be right among the leaders in 3-point makes once again.

Murray is entering his third season and has established himself as a strong 3-point shooter off the catch and a solid finisher on drives to the rim. Perhaps he will take on more scoring responsibilities this upcoming season.

Murray’s defence will also be crucial in balancing out the lineup, as he can stay attached to his man on the drive, guard multiple positions, pick up his man full court, fight over screens, and force turnovers and tough shots.

Monk, the runner-up in the Sixth Man of the Year voting, will likely continue to operate in that role. Monk has found his niche in Sactown next to his former Kentucky teammate Fox, bringing a well-rounded scoring punch off the bench, given his ability to take it to the rim, create in the midrange, and knock down the trey.

With the offensive firepower and versatility this team possesses, they should be able to get to at least 47 wins and find themselves back in the playoffs.

Exciting times are ahead in California’s state capital after nearly two decades of misery.
