2025 NBA Power Rankings: Who’s the Best Team in NBA Right Now?

  • The Thunder have the shortest odds for the NBA title.
  • Home- court advantage is up for grabs in both conferences.
  • The Clippers have a +8.8 net rating with Kawhi Leonard.

The changes in basketball betting odds show the ups and downs teams endure during an NBA season. A hot streak can shorten a team’s title odds, while a key injury can see their price suddenly lengthen.

Into the final few weeks of the regular season, teams are jostling for seeding in both conferences.

Who’s the Best NBA Team Right Now?

1. Oklahoma City Thunder

Sporting the shortest title odds in BetMGM’s NBA betting markets, the Oklahoma City Thunder have reclaimed top spot from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have lost four of their last five games.

The Thunder have the second-best net rating in NBA history. They have gone 22-3 since the end of January and have demonstrated an ability to win big games even when missing key members of their rotation.

6. Los Angeles Clippers

Winner of eight of their last 10, I am tempted to place a bet online on the Los Angeles Clippers to win the title at their current price. The Clips are +8.8 per 100 possessions in Kawhi Leonard’s minutes this season, which puts them among the league’s elite teams.

James Harden has quietly had an excellent season, while Norm Powell is a more than serviceable third option. With an elite defence and three efficient scorers, I am excited to see how the Clips perform in the playoffs.

9. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have seen their title odds shorten from +1000 to +700 over the last week. The return of LeBron James from injury is the main reason for this change, as the Lakers have lost eight of their last 11, including recent losses to the Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, and Chicago Bulls.

The Lakers are only one game behind the third-placed Denver Nuggets, though, and 2.5 behind the second-placed Houston Rockets. LeBron and Co. are a scary postseason opponent, even if their defence has regressed significantly.

16. Memphis Grizzlies

Fifteenth in net rating with an 11-12 record since the start of February, the Memphis Grizzlies have fallen to fifth in the Western Conference and could find themselves competing in the play-in tournament.

After facing the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night, the Grizz have a gruelling run of games which could go a long way to defining their season. It’s been a disappointing start to 2025, and Ja Morant’s inconsistent availability hasn’t made life any easier.

19. New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are 20th in net rating since the All-Star break. The offence has cratered over that period, with Jalen Brunson’s injury leaving Tom Thibodeau’s team alarmingly short on shot creation.

A first-round matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks is a very real possibility. I wouldn’t be picking the Knicks in that series.
