Minnesota Timberwolves Futures Odds

Win Total: 52.5

Northwest Division: +250

Western Conference: +500

NBA Championship: +1100

The NBA betting market is giving the Timberwolves plenty of respect this upcoming season.

Minnesota’s win total is eight games higher than last year. It marks the team’s highest preseason win total since 2004-05, when it had an over/under of 54.5.

That was also the last time the Timberwolves traded below +1800 in the preseason to win the NBA Finals.

Minnesota Timberwolves Offseason Moves

The Timberwolves traded for Rob Dillingham, the eighth overall pick, on draft night.

Minnesota also traded away franchise icon Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks, landing Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

Minnesota Timberwolves 2024-25 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Under 52.5 Wins (+105)

I predict that the Timberwolves will win under 52.5 games.

Anthony Edwards took another leap toward superstardom last season, providing plenty of scoring outbursts and suffocating defence on the perimeter.

Ant-Man is adept at creating off the dribble in pulling up in the mid-range or from 3-point land, and he also can take his defender off the dribble, split the defence, go to the turnaround fadeaway or step-through jumper, and finish through heavy contact, throwing down some of the meanest posterizing slams you’ll ever see.

Defensively, Edwards can slide over or come from behind and meet his opponent at the summit for a block in the blink of an eye, clamp down on his opponent to prevent driving lanes, force tough shots, and come up with steals to generate easy points in transition.

Rudy Gobert best operates as a lob threat inside and a free safety rim protector on defence. He becomes extremely vulnerable once dragged out to the perimeter, but it’ll be up to head coach Chris Finch to maximize the best out of each of his other good defenders to keep the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in his comfort zone.

Randle is a rugged scorer on the drive and in the post and a solid playmaker, but he requires the ball to be in his hands and operates better in isolation, unlike Towns, which could make his fit next to Edwards a bit awkward, especially since he doesn’t hit the 3-pointer as well as the other Kentucky product. Randle’s long-term future in Minnesota is definitely a huge question.

DiVincenzo was third in 3-pointers made last season, as his activity off the ball will lead to many 3-pointers and opportunities at the rim off of cuts. He should also continue to be a threat to drive to the rim.

Naz Reid will also spell Randle and Gobert at the big man position at times, as his 3-point shooting will continue to help open up the Timberwolves’ offence even further.

Dillingham should give the Wolves another threat to attack the rim and shoot the triple off the bench. His development will certainly be something to watch as the Timberwolves look to develop their future while remaining competitive.

Jaden McDaniels will again be tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player and locking down the perimeter while providing solid contributions to the scoreboard.

Mike Conley’s 3-point shooting, playmaking, defence, and veteran leadership will be crucial, and Dillingham’s arrival should help Conley have fresh legs come playoff time.

This team is looking incredibly good next season, but losing Towns is a big deal, which is why Minnesota winning less than 53 games is my best online sportsbook bet.

It will take time for Randle and Edwards to develop chemistry and for McDaniels and Reid to step into bigger roles. The Timberwolves also lost the one player who covered Gobert’s defensive weaknesses last season in Towns, coupled with the latter’s 3-point shooting and all-around ability to score.

The Towns trade gives the Timberwolves more flexibility in the future, but it likely eliminates any real chance to win a championship this season.
