  • Draymond Green (-450) closed as the favourite to win Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Evan Mobley is the second favourite at +350.
  • Luguentz Dort’s candidacy has gained late-season momentum.

Draymond Green is the heavy favourite in basketball betting odds for NBA Defensive Player of the Year at +450.

Evan Mobley has the second-shortest price in the latest NBA betting odds at +350.

Prediction: Who Will Win 2025 Defensive Player of the Year?

Draymond Green (-450) is the favourite to win 2024-25 NBA Defensive Player of the Year according to the latest online sports betting odds at BetMGM, followed by:

  • Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers (+350)
  • Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder (+600)
  • Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks (+4000)
  • Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis Grizzlies (+10000)

I predict Green will win Defensive Player of the Year in 2024-25 because of how impactful he has been at centre since the Golden State Warriors traded for Jimmy Butler.

Green finished the regular season seventh in stocks per game.

Odds for NBA Defensive Player of the Year

Draymond Green Defensive Player of the Year Odds -450

The Warriors had the league’s best defence after the All-Star break. Green led his Defensive Player of the Year campaign, which has been backed by a number of high-profile media members, including Zach Lowe.

Dort and Mobley each have a higher share of the handle than Green. Golden State’s defensive rating was only 1.2 points better with Green on the floor this season.

His impact has always gone far beyond the box score, and I think voters are likely to give him this award as much for his career as for his performances this season.

Evan Mobley Defensive Player of the Year Odds +350

The favourite a few weeks ago, Mobley closed at +350 for Defensive Player of the Year. He has the largest handle share of any player at over 21%.

Cleveland’s defence is only 2.9 points better per 100 possessions with Mobley on the floor, representing a marked decline from earlier in the season. While Mobley is better at protecting the rim than Green (allowing 58.8% on shots from five feet or closer compared with Green’s 63.3%), Green significantly outperforms Mobley in advanced defensive metrics like estimated defensive plus-minus and D-LEBRON.

I think Mobley will win DPOY at some point in his career, but I doubt it will be this season.

Luguentz Dort Defensive Player of the Year Odds +600

Dort shortened from +1500 to +600 over the final week of the regular season. The best defender on a Thunder team which finished with a defensive rating 2.5 points better than any other team, Dort’s candidacy relies on the eye test over statistics.

He only averages 1.6 stocks per game. The Thunder’s defence is 2.7 points better per 100 possessions in his minutes.

Taking the toughest assignment every night and playing a key role for the league’s best defence is a compelling argument for Dort to win DPOY. It’s likely he will be a finalist, but I don’t see him getting enough support to win this award.

Dyson Daniels Defensive Player of the Year Odds +4000

With the Hawks finishing 16th in defensive rating, Dyson Daniels closed at +4000 to win Defensive Player of the Year. Daniels led the league in stocks, but Atlanta’s defence had an identical defensive rating whether he was on the floor or sitting on the bench.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Defensive Player of the Year Odds +5000

Injury, the firing of Taylor Jenkins, and the Grizzlies’ defensive decline contributed to Jackson falling out of DPOY contention. Memphis was 18th in defensive rating after the All-Star break despite Jackson averaging the third-most stocks per game.
