Dallas Mavericks 2024-25 Betting Prediction
Prediction: Over 50.5 Wins (+100)
I predict that the Mavs will win over 50.5 games next season.
Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving have found their niche as teammates, with Dončić taking on the role of the primary playmaker and the lead scorer and Irving embracing his role as an off-ball scorer who does a significant amount of his damage down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Dončić, who finished third in MVP voting last season, is a legitimate threat to win the MVP award this upcoming season after averaging 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds per game last season.
Dončić’s ball fakes and skill to get shots up or passes through tight angles make him incredibly hard to stop, but one knock on him has been his fitness level.

Dončić’s frame has seemingly led to fatigue in many games, especially during the playoffs, as he’s also had to battle through various injuries.
However, that same frame allows him to post up smaller guards and play bully ball, giving him a huge advantage when considering his footwork and a knack for hitting fadeaway and turnaround jumpers.
Irving’s shot creation off the dribble, ball-handling skills that help him zigzag through defences, and ability to hit the catch-and-shoot 3-pointer and identify defensive coverage on the fly has given Dončić exactly what he’s needed as a copilot.
The Mavs added P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford at the trade deadline, bolstering their floor spacing and defence.
Dončić helped maximize Gafford and Dereck Lively II’s game on the pick-and-roll, serving as threats on the lob or off a shovel pass. Both will also be instrumental in protecting the rim for Dallas.
Lively averaged 8.8 points on 74.7% shooting, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game during his rookie season. Even a slight improvement in those numbers next season could be a huge difference-maker.
The biggest acquisition was Thompson, who will be a part of a completely different offence this upcoming season. The Splash Brother is used to a ball-movement-heavy offence where he barely has to take a dribble and was a huge beneficiary of the attention Stephen Curry garnered near the halfcourt line and the screens Draymond Green sets.
Thompson playing next to two players who love to do their damage in isolation will be an adjustment, but he’ll still get a healthy amount of open looks due to the double teams Dončić and Irving will attract.
As the season wears on, I’m sure Mavs head coach Jason Kidd will start implementing sets reminiscent of the Warriors to keep the opposing defences moving and guessing, which will also help the four-time champion get acclimated to his new environment.
Losing Derrick Jones Jr. will be tough for the Mavs, but Marshall should be able to replicate what Jones brought to the team as a defender, 3-point shooter, and threat out in transition. Thompson’s defence on the perimeter and on the ball will also be crucial.
If Dončić can stay healthy, composed under pressure, and buy in on the defensive side of the ball while cutting down on complaining to the refs, Irving shoots better against tough defenders, and all the pieces fit as well as their roster on paper suggests, then this team can definitely win the Finals this upcoming season.
