After falling short in the NBA Finals three other times, Erving and the Sixers finally broke through and swept the Los Angeles Lakers in 1983.
“Dr. J” earned the 1981 MVP Award and seven All-NBA Team selections as a Sixer.
Erving has the most blocks, third-most points and steals, and fourth-most assists in franchise history.
2. Allen Iverson
Allen Iverson was listed at just 6 feet, but he played with the heart of a lion, as opposing defenders rarely had an answer for the crossover of “The Answer”, or his elite quickness, speed, and overall strength.

The 2001 MVP led the Sixers to the NBA Finals that same year, but the Lakers took them out in five games.
“AI” has the second-most points and steals and third-most assists in franchise history, as he also earned six All-NBA Team selections during his first stint in the “City of Brotherly Love.”
3. Wilt Chamberlain
Wilt Chamberlain’s time as a Sixer wasn’t very long, but it was memorable.
Chamberlain took home three straight MVP Awards during his time in Philadelphia and also helped his hometown team win a championship in 1967, defeating his former team, the San Francisco Warriors, in six games.
They also took down Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics, who had won nine of the last 10 championships, in the Eastern Conference finals.
Chamberlain averaged 27.6 points, 23.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 277 games as a Sixer and has the fifth-most rebounds in franchise history.
4. Moses Malone
Moses Malone proved to be the missing piece the Sixers needed to finally break through and win a championship in 1983.
Before that playoff run, Malone insisted that they weren’t going to lose a game with his “fo, fo, fo” declaration. His manifestation nearly came true, as they lost just one game to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference finals.
Malone was named MVP and Finals MVP in 1983, while also being named to two All-NBA Teams during his time as a Sixer.
5. Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley was undersized for his position, but he still found ways to outrebound his opponents and score inside the paint with his physicality and basketball IQ.
Barkley also had the ability to push the ball in transition and throw down some powerful dunks.
Barkley made seven All-NBA Teams as a Sixer and has the third-most rebounds and fifth-most points and steals in franchise history.
6. Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid has all the power and post moves to make him a dominant scorer inside the paint, but what makes him even more deadly is his ability to hit the 3-pointer, drive down the lane and hit turnaround fadeaway jumpers.
