The Toronto Raptors have gotten off to a fast start, holding a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference 25 games into the season.
As a result, they could hunt for a big-name star to improve the Raptors odds of making the playoffs and winning a championship.
Considering his ability to score and defend at a high level inside and out, Anthony Davis could come in and be that game-changing star.
With recent rumours linking Toronto as Davis’s next possible destination, let’s look at who they could trade to add the former No. 1 pick out of Kentucky.
Raptors Anthony Davis Trade Rumours with Mavs
The Raptors boast a top 10 defensive rating, but what’s holding them back is a strong interior defender to pair with Scottie Barnes down low.
The Dallas Mavericks could look to acquire assets to build around rookie phenom Cooper Flagg, a shift that could put Davis’s future in Texas in jeopardy.
Here are a few players Toronto could be willing to deal as part of a larger package, including draft picks.
Who Could the Raptors Trade for Anthony Davis?
RJ Barrett
RJ Barrett has settled in nicely with his hometown squad since coming over in a trade with the New York Knicks in December 2023.
The Duke product has looked extremely comfortable operating with the ball in his hands, attacking the rim, and setting his teammates up for nice looks.
However, Barrett is not the most consistent 3-point shooter, which could hinder his long-term fit next to two ball-dominant wings in Barnes and Brandon Ingram.
The 2019 No. 3 pick could thrive in the future next to Kyrie Irving, who is known for his ability to generate offence off the ball.
Immanuel Quickley
The Mavericks could look for a point guard who better fits Flagg’s timeline than Irving.
Quickley isn’t the three-level scoring threat that Irving is, but his lightning-quick speed puts a ton of pressure on the rim, and his playmaking chops could help create easy opportunities for Flagg to attack the basket.
Toronto already has three players who can score and run an offence at a high level, so parting with Quickley to add a dominant interior force makes sense.
Jakob Poeltl
Jakob Poeltl has been a beacon of consistency, averaging over 10 points per game on north of 60% shooting since 2021.
It wouldn’t shock me to see the Raptors hang on to Poeltl and try to pair him with AD, but he might have to go to help make salaries match in any potential deal.
Collin Murray-Boyles
Collin Murray-Boyles is known for his physicality and knack for scoring around the rim.
A rebuilding situation in Dallas could help him develop his 3-point shooting and playmaking skills.
Gradey Dick
Gradey Dick’s tendency to get hot could take some pressure off of Irving and provide a nice scoring boost for a Mavericks team in desperate need of some.
Future Draft Picks
The Raptors have control of all of their future first-round draft picks until 2032.
Davis’s age and injury history could limit the number of first-round picks Toronto is willing to give up, but the Raptors could add lottery protections to ease the risk of acquiring AD at this stage of his career.
Either way, I’d imagine Dallas acquires at least one first-round pick in any scenario.
