Who Won the Home Run Derby in 2023?

The 2023 Home Run Derby was one of the ages. Records were broken, history was made, and there was drama throughout. The outcome of the Derby might not have a significant impact on how I make MLB predictions for the rest of the season, but it’s an entertaining event in the middle of the campaign. 

The Derby is one of the highlights of All-Star Week. Many of the game’s greatest sluggers have shone brightly during this power-hitting festival, including Ken Griffey Jr., Frank Thomas, Mark McGwire, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Barry Bonds. 

Who Won the Home Run Derby in 2023?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won the 2023 Home Run Derby. Guerrero beat Randy Arozarena in the final by a score of 25-23. The Toronto Blue Jays first baseman knocked out Mookie Betts in the quarterfinals and Julio Rodríguez in the semis.

Guerrero was seeded sixth in the eight-man field. He was clearly one of the best baseball bets on the board before the 2023 Derby and delivered in a big way with a record-setting 72 total homers across the three rounds.

After Vladimir Guerrero Sr.’s win in 2007, the Guerreros became the first father-son duo to win the Home Run Derby. It was also the first win by an American League player since 2017, with Pete Alonso (twice), Bryce Harper, and Juan Soto combining to win the last four editions. 

It was the first time in the event’s history that a Blue Jays player won the Derby. Arozarena hit the second-most total home runs ever, which makes it even more impressive that Guerrero was able to get the better of him. Entering the 2024 event, Guerrero ranks second in Home Run Derby history with 163 homers. 

What Does the Home Run Derby Winner Get?

The winner of the Home Run Derby receives $1 million and the trophy. The runner-up pockets $750,000, with the remaining $750

The 2024 winner will also receive the Home Run Derby chain. Pete Alonso, a two-time winner, is one of the best online sportsbook favourites with fabulous 2024 Home Run Derby odds of winning.

The format has changed over the years, as has the prize money, but the current reward has attracted the game’s biggest hitters to take part.
