The Toronto Blue Jays, fresh off a trip to the World Series, were proactive in the offseason. Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce were acquired to reinforce the rotation, while Kazuma Okamoto was brought in to play third base.

Toronto is among the World Series favourites in the baseball odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook, yet there are still areas of this roster that could be improved.

Jose Iglesias

Signing Jose Iglesias wouldn’t have a significant impact on Toronto’s MLB odds to win the AL East, but it would provide much-needed infield depth. Depth Charts currently has Davis Schneider as the only infielder on the Jays’ bench.

Iglesias isn’t the defender he once was. Significant decreases in defensive metrics and sprint speed are part of the reason he remains unsigned. The veteran has had to settle for minor-league deals in the last two offseasons.

A freakish season at the plate in 2024 was followed by a .592 OPS with the San Diego Padres in 2025. Iglesias only makes sense for the Jays if Andrés Giménez or Ernie Clement suffer injuries in spring training.

Jesse Winker

Injuries kept Jesse Winker to 26 games in 2025. A lack of interest in free agency could force the former Cincinnati Red to take a minor-league deal.

Winker had a 117 OPS+ as recently as 2024. While Toronto is set in the outfield, Winker could do a job off the bench or provide depth in Triple-A if he’s willing to take a minor-league deal with an opt-out.

Zack Littell

It’s a bit surprising Zack Littell remains unsigned, despite his low strikeout rate. He generates swings at an elite level by rarely walking batters, and over the last two seasons, only 14 pitchers have thrown more innings at a better ERA.

Toronto has already bolstered its rotation depth this offseason, but Littell has bullpen experience and could be brought in as a swing man if the Jays suffer injuries in spring.

Tommy Kahnle

Aged 36 and coming off his worst season since 2018, Tommy Kahnle is going to have to settle for a minor-league deal if he chooses to continue his MLB career.

Even in a difficult year, Kahnle ranked in the 75th percentile in hard-hit rate and groundball rate in 2025. His changeup didn’t get as many whiffs as in previous years, but his late-game experience could be useful in the Jays’ bullpen.

Danny Coulombe

Toronto could do with a veteran southpaw in its bullpen. Danny Coulombe, who has a 171 ERA+ over the last four seasons, would be an ideal fit.

The combination of a vicious cutter and a nasty sweeper makes Coulombe particularly tough on lefties. For his career, he’s held left-handed hitters to a .596 OPS, while still being very effective against right-handers.
