Injuries and underperformance have had a significant impact on the list of the best Toronto Blue Jays players in 2026. Some of Toronto’s supposedly best players have struggled or spent time on the Blue Jays injured list

It’s not all about evaluating the best current Blue Jays on their 2025 WAR or their 2026 projections. Leadership and other factors had to be taken into account.

Best Blue Jays in 2026

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., First Baseman

Even though his baseball betting odds to win AL MVP at the BetMGM online sportsbook have lengthened considerably, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is still one of the Blue Jays’ most important players.

Guerrero has only hit three home runs and has posted 0.8 bWAR. His .356 xwOBA is the worst he’s posted since 2022. A down year from their best player reflects how much the offence has struggled in 2026 – a 108 OPS+ is the lowest Guerrero has posted since his rookie year.

Ernie Clement, Second Baseman

Ernie Clement has an .872 OPS over the last 28 days. The underlying numbers aren’t strong, yet Clement’s low strikeout rate and his knack for putting the ball in play have been a successful formula. Only one Blue Jay has a better OPS+.

Subpar defensive numbers are a concern going forward. Clement’s sprint speed has decreased markedly, and he’s gone from being an elite defender to one of the worst in the big leagues.

Daulton Varsho, Centre Fielder

Clement is the only Jays hitter with more bWAR than Daulton Varsho. A streaky hitter, Varsho has struggled at the dish over the last couple of weeks, but he’s still been better than league average with the bat.

The defence and sprint speed have taken a step back. Varsho is still more than passable in centre, though, and he’s got the lowest strikeout rate of his career.

Jesús Sánchez, Corner Outfielder

After an excellent May at the plate, Jesús Sánchez has cooled off in a big way at the start of June. The overall numbers are still strong, however, and Sánchez sits in the 73rd percentile in xwOBA.

A change in offensive profile has made Sánchez into a different hitter, but he’s still being very productive. There might be some concern about his defence so far.

Who Is the Best Blue Jays Pitcher?

Kevin Gausman

In the absence of Dylan Cease and Shane Bieber, the performances of Kevin Gausman are having an impact on the Blue Jays’ World Series odds. Gausman has a 3.16 FIP and has pitched 80 innings in 14 starts.

Toronto has gone 8-6 in Gausman’s starts. He’s not had the best start to June, but that’s unlikely to be more than a blip. Gausman sits in the 72nd percentile in xERA.
