The New York Yankees have won the most World Series with 27 titles.

The Yankees have had several periods of dominance. They won five straight titles between 1949 and 1953 after winning four in a row between 1936 and 1939. A run of three straight from 1998 to 2000 leaves the Yankees as the most recent team to record a three-peat. 

While MLB odds have often priced the Yankees among World Series favourites since then, New York has just one title since 2000. 

The St. Louis Cardinals are the only other team to win double-digit World Series titles. Unlike the Yankees, St. Louis has never gone back-to-back. The Cardinals’ most recent title came in 2011, and they lost to the Boston Red Sox in 2013. 

Has a Canadian Team Ever Won the World Series?

Yes, the Toronto Blue Jays have won the World Series twice. Toronto won the Fall Classic in 1992 and 1993. Those are the only two occasions the Blue Jays have reached the World Series.

After winning their second title, baseball odds consistently priced the Jays as outsiders for the World Series until they returned to the postseason in 2015. Toronto went on to lose in the ALCS in 2015 and 2016. 

The Montreal Expos never made it to the World Series. Montreal’s only postseason appearance was a trip to the NLCS in 1981, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
