Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Shane Bieber has yet to make his 2026 debut. Bieber picked up a $16 million player option in the 2025-26 offseason to ensure he remains a Blue Jay for the 2026 campaign.

The veteran right-hander was a fringe contender for the AL Cy Young in preseason MLB betting at the BetMGM online sportsbook. His chances of winning the award have faded dramatically due to a prolonged absence.

When Will Shane Bieber Return From Injury?

Bieber is expected to be back at some point in May.

The two-time All-Star has begun throwing bullpen sessions and reportedly feels good.

What Injury Does Shane Bieber Have?

Bieber is dealing with elbow inflammation. It’s an issue that has been hanging around since the end of last season, when the right-hander was suffering from forearm fatigue.

The Blue Jays are naturally being cautious with Bieber, who returned from Tommy John surgery in the second half of the 2025 season.

Is Shane Bieber on the Injured List?

Yes, Bieber was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to March 22.

Jays fans can take some solace from the fact Bieber hasn’t been added to the 60-day IL.

Why is Shane Bieber Not Playing?

Bieber has not played so far in 2026 due to right elbow inflammation.

It is the same elbow that underwent Tommy John surgery in 2025, so Toronto is not going to rush the former Cy Young winner back.
