Since the championship series was added in 1969 and the division series was introduced 12 years later, it’s become easier for managers to collect postseason wins.

To feature on this list, managers still need to lead teams which are consistently among the World Series favourites in MLB odds

Since the wild card was extended to include three teams in each league, a manager can win a maximum of 13 games in a playoff run. There are 45 managers in MLB history with 13 or more wins in the postseason.

Joe Torre’s 84 playoff wins are the most by any manager in World Series history.

Torre was a four-time World Series champion with the New York Yankees from 1996 to 2003. He also lost the Fall Classic on two occasions. The Yankees were perennial World Series favourites in baseball odds during Torre’s tenure.

With more postseason rounds added in recent decades, the list is inevitably skewed toward modern managers. The top 10 features four active managers in Bruce Bochy, Dave Roberts, Terry Francona, and A.J. Hinch.

Casey Stengel and Joe McCarthy are the most successful World Series managers, each with seven titles. All their postseason wins – 37 and 30, respectively – came in the Fall Classic. McCarthy has the highest postseason winning percentage of the managers listed at .698.
