  • Albert Pujols has the most home runs by a first baseman.
  • Ten first basemen have 500+ home runs.
  • Pujols and Jim Thome are the only first basemen with over 600 big flies.

It’s common when looking at the latest MLB betting odds to see first basemen among the favourites to lead the league in home runs. The first baseman is usually one of the best power hitters on their team, so they inevitably have large career totals.

Players also get moved to first base as they age, so if a player begins their career as an elite hitter at third base or in the outfield, they can still end up registering the majority of their plate appearances as a first baseman.

Which First Baseman Has the Most Home Runs in MLB History?

Albert Pujols has the most home runs by a first baseman in MLB history with 703. Pujols led the majors in home runs in 2009 with 47 and led the National League in 2010 with 42.

He was consistently a baseball betting favourite for MVP throughout his peak years in St. Louis. A three-time winner of the award, Pujols was also a runner-up in 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2010.

There are 10 primary first basemen in the 500 home-run club, but Jim Thome is the only other first baseman with over 600 big flies. Thome is 91 behind Pujols.
