Joe Ryan Over 6.5 Strikeouts (TBA)
Joe Ryan has recorded over 6.5 strikeouts in four of his last five starts. Over the last three weeks, the Pittsburgh Pirates have had the fourth-highest strikeout rate in the big leagues.
Ryan’s slider, fastball, and curveball are above-average pitches. Pittsburgh has the sixth-lowest contact rate in the majors.
Drew Rasmussen Over 1.5 Earned Runs (TBA)
The third of my MLB picks today is backing the Boston Red Sox against Drew Rasmussen. Boston has the third-best wRC+ over the last three weeks. Rasmussen is in the 26th percentile in hard-hit rate and has allowed over 1.5 earned runs in four of his previous six starts.
Rasmussen’s underlying numbers indicate he’s enjoyed some batted-ball luck so far this season. I think the Red Sox can get at least a couple of runs off the Rays’ right-hander.
