The Kings and Capitals have three and six playoff appearances, respectively, despite competing in 18 IPL campaigns. At the other end of the spectrum, the most successful IPL team has appeared in 12 playoffs in 16 years and reached 10 finals.

8. Deccan Chargers, One Title, One Final

The Deccan Chargers won their lone IPL title in 2009. Amid financial struggles, the Chargers franchise was terminated in 2012.

Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma, and Andrew Symonds were among their star players in their title-winning campaign.

T-6. Gujarat Titans, One Title, Two Finals

Founded in 2022, the Gujarat Titans have reached three playoffs, played in two finals, and won the title in their inaugural campaign.

Shubman Gill is the Titans’ leading run scorer, with Rashid Khan boasting the franchise’s most wickets. 

T-6. Rajasthan Royals, One Title, Two Finals

Rajasthan Royals have played in 16 seasons compared with Gujarat’s four, yet have appeared in the same number of finals. 

Rajasthan won the first IPL season and didn’t reach another final until 2022.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad, One Title, Three Finals

Champions in 2016 behind strong seasons from David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the playoffs in each of the next four seasons, but only reached one more final in that period.

Sunrisers were runners-up in 2024, suffering an emphatic final defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru hadn’t reached an IPL final in nine years when they defeated the Kings to claim their first title in 2025.

It’s remarkable that RCB didn’t win a title during the period that they had Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, and Chris Gayle at the top of their order.

Champions in 2012, 2014, and 2024, KKR have only reached the playoffs eight times in 18 IPL seasons, but have a knack for performing when the lights are brightest.

The Knight Riders have only made two playoff appearances since 2018.

2. Mumbai Indians, Five Titles, Six Finals

Between 2013 and 2020, the Mumbai Indians reached five finals and won all five. 

They fell at the playoff stage in 2023 and 2025. All five of their titles came under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, who is the franchise leader in runs scored ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard.
