- Wrexham have spent much of their history outside the top two divisions.
- The club won the FA Trophy in 2013.
- The Robins achieved a third consecutive promotion in 2025.
Wrexham are the third-oldest football club in the world. Boasting a rich history, I had a lot of teams to choose from when trying to narrow this list down to a top five. Inevitably, teams from the three consecutive promotions in the 2020s had to be included, given they are the first side in Football League history to achieve the feat.
The Robins gained worldwide attention when they were purchased by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. This has led to far more fans looking at Wrexham’s soccer lines when they are planning to place a bet online.

1. 2024-25
After recording back-to-back promotions, Wrexham made a string of high-profile signings before and during the 2024-25 season, including Jay Rodriguez and Matty James.
This helped the club secure automatic promotion from League One to the Championship and become the first team in Football League history to register promotions in three consecutive seasons. The Robins also reached the last four of the EFL Trophy and had several emphatic league wins throughout the season.
2. 1977-78
Led by club legend Arfon Griffiths, Wrexham won the Third Division in 1977-78 to secure promotion to the Second Division for the first time. They also reached the last eight of the FA Cup and League Cup.
Following promotion, Wrexham survived four seasons in the Second Division before suffering relegation. They didn’t return to the second tier until 1993.
3. 2012-13
Following a first-round exit in the previous season, Wrexham won their first FA Trophy in 2012-13. They also earned a playoff spot in the Conference Premier, but lost the playoff final to Newport County at Wembley.
The FA Trophy was the club’s second piece of silverware since 1995, which served as a reason to celebrate during some difficult years at the Racecourse Ground.
4. 2023-24
In their first season back in the Football League, Wrexham cruised to promotion from League Two to League One. They finished only four points behind league winners Stockport County and made a run to the fourth round of the FA Cup, defeating Mansfield, Yeovil, and Shrewsbury on the way.
Paul Mullin led the way with 26 goals in 43 appearances, while the Red Dragons also added former internationals in James McLean and Steven Fletcher.
5. 2022-23
Amassing 111 points and securing promotion from the National League, the 2022-23 Wrexham team was one of the best in the club’s long history.
A dramatic 3-2 win over Notts County in April gave Wrexham the edge in a tight title race. During the season, Wrexham set club records for their longest winning streak, longest winning run, most league goals, and most league wins.
