Even though Canada is far from being a favourite to win the T20 World Cup in BetMGM’s cricket betting odds, the country is gradually improving as a cricketing nation.

A win over Ireland at the 2024 T20 World Cup was a major step forward for the national team. Part of a country’s progress on the international stage is having the necessary funding for elite-level facilities.

What Are the Biggest Canada Cricket Venues?

1. Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City

Maple Leaf Cricket Club has a capacity of 7,000, making it Canada’s biggest cricket stadium. It is bigger than four of England’s county grounds.

Using a turf wicket, it became Canada’s second ICC-approved venue in 2006. There are five different grounds within Maple Leaf Cricket Club, with the North-West ground used for ODIs and T20s. Maple Leaf also hosted every match in the inaugural Global T20 Canada tournament in 2024.

2. Toronto Cricket Club, Toronto

With a capacity of 4,875, Toronto Cricket Club is Canada’s second-largest cricket stadium. It is one of two venues to host international matches.

Founded in 1827, it was initially used exclusively for cricket, but has since become a multi-sport venue for squash, skating, and other activities.

3. Rosedale, Toronto

It might not be an ICC-approved venue, but Rosedale still plays a major part in the Canadian cricketing world. Picturesque and with a long history of hosting cricket matches, Rosedale often hosts local and regional tournaments.

The pitch has received rave reviews over the years, enabling players to get a true cricket experience in leafy surroundings. Only one first-class match has been held at Rosedale, which was between a combined XI of Canadian and American players against Australia in 1913.

4. Sunnybrook Park, Toronto

Sunnybrook Park isn’t too far from the Toronto Cricket Club and Rosedale. It has become a key venue for grassroots cricket in the country through tournaments between local clubs and regional events.

A large public park, there’s a community feel to playing or watching cricket in Sunnybrook Park. Matches will only be played more frequently in Sunnybrook as cricket’s popularity increases.

5. CAA Centre, Brampton

A relatively new venue for cricket, the CAA Centre in Brampton has received sizeable investment to provide modern facilities for players and spectators. It will play a pivotal role in the long-term development of Canadian cricketers.

While it’s not yet approved to host international matches, it seems only a matter of time before the ICC allows Canada to play matches at the CAA Centre. It has opened up opportunities for wannabe cricketers in the area.
