Week 0 of the college football season begins on Aug. 23. On that day, five games will be played, including the Kansas Jayhawks hosting the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Fresno State vs. Kansas Predictions & Best Bets

The Jayhawks are coming off a disappointing 2024, but have quarterback Jalon Daniels back under center. 

Last season, he threw for 2,454 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He completed just 57% of his passes. 

He has several new wide receivers, including Bryson Canty, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and Cam Pickett. He also has a new right tackle, Enrique Cruz Jr., and running back Leshon Williams. Williams came over from Iowa, where he ran 170 times for 821 yards in 2023. 

They’ll be taking on a fairly new-look Bulldogs squad. 

The Bulldogs have E.J. Warner, the son of Kurt Warner, under center. Former quarterback Mikey Keene left for Michigan.

Fresno State has a new head coach, too, in Matt Entz. Entz was the head coach for North Dakota State from 2019 to 2023. He was the assistant head coach and linebackers coach with USC in 2024. 

While Warner is new, the Bulldogs did lose their top three wide receivers. 

On defence, they have some solid defensive backs with Al’zillion Hamilton and Jayden Davis. Daniels will need to channel his 2022 self, as he was quite turnover-prone last season. 

Overall, both teams have their strengths, but both quarterbacks had many turnovers in 2024. 

Kansas is the better team and should be able to run the ball well with Williams and Daniels.

There will be some growing pains in Week 0 with Fresno State’s new quarterback, new head coach, and the loss of several key wide receivers. 

My prediction is the Jayhawks win and cover the point spread.
