1. Claude Mathis
Mathis was the running back for Texas State from 1994 to 1997.
He ran for 4,694 yards (first in program history). He holds three of the top five single-season rushing records, headlined by 1,595 yards in 1997.
He also had 45 rushing touchdowns (first), including 16 in 1996, which is a single-season record.
Mathis was all-conference and an All-American each year of his tenure.
In 1997, he finished third in the Walter Payton Award voting (most valuable player at the FCS level).
2. Bradley George
George was the quarterback for Texas State from 2006 to 2009.
He threw for 9,556 yards (first) and 76 touchdowns (first).
George also holds two of the top four single-season passing touchdown marks with 26 in 2008 and 23 in 2009.
He was the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-Southland selection, a second-team All-Southland honoree, the team MVP in 2009, and led his team to a Southland Conference title and multiple top 25 finishes in the FCS.
3. Tyler Jones
Jones also played quarterback for Texas State, suiting up from 2013 to 2016.
He was there at the beginning of Texas State’s FBS tenure, throwing for 8,480 yards (second) and 55 touchdowns (second).
He holds the single-game passing yardage record with 475 in 2016 against Incarnate Word.
He ranks first in total yards with 9,889 yards and second in total touchdowns with 76.
Jones was second-team All-Sun Belt, third-team All-Sun Belt, and Texas State’s Most Outstanding Freshman.
4. Barrick Nealy
Nealy was with Texas State from 2003 to 2005.
He threw for 7,206 yards (third) and 52 touchdowns (third).
In 2005, he also ran for 1,057 yards and 13 touchdowns, which are 10th and fourth in a single season in program history, respectively.
Nealy also holds the single-game record for total yards with 526 in 2005 against Georgia Southern.
In 2005, he was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year.
As of 2024, he is the Texas State running backs coach.
5. Jordan McCloud
McCloud played just one season for Texas State, but it was a massively impactful one.
He threw for 3,227 yards (second in a single season) and 30 touchdowns (most in a single season) in 2024.
He was third-team All-Sun Belt and led them to a win in the First Responder Bowl, beating North Texas 30-28.
