Southern Miss Golden Eagle All-Time Greatest Football Players
1. Brett Favre
Favre played quarterback for Southern Miss from 1987 to 1990. While there, he led the program to several massive wins, including against No. 6 Florida State in 1989 and over Alabama shortly after he was in a brutal car accident.
When he left the school, he held numerous records in passing yards, passing touchdowns, total yards, and total touchdowns.
They held until 2011.
The school retired his No. 4.
2. Austin Davis
Davis also played quarterback for Southern Miss. He was there from 2008 to 2011.
He threw for 10,892 yards (second in program history) and 83 touchdowns (second). He was the player to break the records previously held by Favre.
He holds the single-game rushing touchdown record with five in a game against UAB in 2008.
A dual-threat player, Davis racked up 12,267 total yards (first) and 108 total touchdowns (first).
In 2011, he won the Burlsworth Trophy (most outstanding college player who began as a walk-on) and the Conerly Trophy (given to the best college player in Mississippi).
Additionally, he was second-team All-Conference USA twice.
3. Nick Mullens
Mullens played quarterback for the Golden Eagles from 2013 to 2016.
While there, he threw for 11,994 yards (first) and 87 touchdowns (first).
He also holds single-season records in passing yards and passing touchdowns, going for 4,476 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2015.
Mullens accumulated 11,779 total yards (second) and 96 total touchdowns (second).
While second all time, he does hold the single-season records with 4,384 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2015.
He was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year (2015) and second-team All-Conference USA.
4. Damion Fletcher
Fletcher was the running back at Southern Miss from 2006 to 2009.
He ran for 5,302 yards (first) and 44 touchdowns (first).
In 2007, he set the single-season rushing yardage record with 1,586 yards, breaking Sam Dejarnette’s record, which had stood since 1982.
He won the Conerly Trophy (2007) and was first and second-team All-Conference USA.
5. Reggie Collier
Before Favre, Collier played quarterback at Southern Miss from 1979 to 1982.
He was a dual-threat signal-caller, throwing for 3,662 yards, 16 touchdowns, and rushing for 2,304 yards (10th) and 26 touchdowns (tied for sixth).
He was a two-time third-team All-American, a two-time All-South Independent, and the program retired his No. 10.
