Sam Houston Bearkats All-Time Greatest Football Players.

1. Jeremiah Briscoe

Briscoe played quarterback for Sam Houston from 2015 to 2017. 

However, he played in just three games in 2015.

Still, he threw for 11,488 yards (most in program history) and 116 touchdowns (first). 

He holds the top two single-season records in passing yards and passing touchdowns. 

The records are 5,003 yards (2017) and 57 touchdowns (2016). 

His 11,393 total yards are also the most in Sam Houston history. 

He won the Walter Payton Award twice, which is the FCS equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. 

2. Timothy Flanders

Flanders played running back at Sam Houston from 2010 to 2013.

He ran for 5,664 yards (first) and 66 touchdowns (first). 

Flanders holds the single-season rushing yards and touchdown records with 1,644 yards and 22 touchdowns. They both came in 2011. 

That same season (2011), he set the single-game rushing yardage record with 287 yards against Montana and the single-game rushing touchdown record with five against New Mexico. 

He beat the single-game rushing record by one yard, breaking the previous record held by McNeil Moore set in 1951. 

He was named the FCS Player of the Year in 2011. 

3. P.J. Hall

Hall played defensive end for Sam Houston from 2014 to 2017.

While there, he recorded 284 tackles (tied for 10th) and 42 sacks (first). He holds three of the top five single-season sack records, headlined by 13 in 2016, which is tied for third. 

He was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and an FCS All-American as a junior and senior. 

4. Nathan Stewart

Stewart played wide receiver at Sam Houston from 2016 to 2019. 

He caught 227 passes (second) for 4,494 yards (first) and 37 touchdowns (second). 

He holds the single-season receiving yardage record with 1,648 in 2017. 

Stewart was the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, first-team All-Southland (twice), and second-team All-Southland.

5. Stan Blinka

Blinka played linebacker for Sam Houston from 1975 to 1978. 

He recorded 538 tackles (first) and holds the single-season (211) and single-game (24) tackle records.
