New Mexico State Aggies All-Time Greatest Football Players
1. Pervis Atkins
Atkins played at New Mexico State for just two seasons (1959 and 1960), but he left a massive mark on the program as a running back and return man.
During his 1959 season, he led the nation in multiple categories: rushing yards (971), yards per carry (7.5), rushing touchdowns (13), total touchdowns (16), yards per punt return (17.7), and points (107).
Over those two seasons, he averaged 8.1 yards per carry, which remains a New Mexico State record among all players with more than 42 carries.
Atkins also caught touchdowns in both of New Mexico State’s wins in the 1959 and 1960 Sun Bowl.
He was a first-team All-American and is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
2. Denvis Manns
Manns was also a running back for New Mexico State from 1995 to 1998.
He ran for 4,692 yards (most in program history) and 23 touchdowns (tied for sixth).
In 1998, he ran for 1,469 yards, which is the second-most in a single Aggies season.
He was three-time first-team All-Big West, the Big West co-Offensive Player of the Year, and is in the Aggie Hall of Fame.
3. Chase Holbrook
Holbrook played quarterback for New Mexico State from 2006 to 2008.
He threw for 11,846 yards (first) and 85 touchdowns (first).
He holds three of the top five single-season passing yardage records, headlined by 4,619 in 2006.
He also threw for 34 touchdowns in 2006, which is a single-season record.
Holbrook is also New Mexico State’s leader in total yards (11,557) and total touchdowns (93).
4. Chris Williams
Williams was a wide receiver for New Mexico State around the same time as Holbrook from 2005 to 2008.
He caught 246 passes (second) for 3,555 yards (first) and 32 touchdowns (first).
Williams holds the top two single-season records in receptions and receiving yards. In 2006, he had 92 catches for 1,425 yards, which are single-season records.
He was two-time first-team All-WAC and second-team All-WAC.
5. Larry Rose III
Rose III played at New Mexico State as a running back from 2014 to 2017. Over his career, he ran for 4,558 yards (second) and 27 touchdowns (fourth).
He holds the single-season rushing yardage record with 1,651 in 2015.
He was the 2017 Arizona Bowl MVP, a third-team All-American, the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Sun Belt, and second-team All-Sun Belt.
