Nevada Wolfpack All-Time Greatest Football Players

1. Colin Kaepernick

Kaepernick was with Nevada from 2006 to 2010, but redshirted his first season. He then suited up in 2007 and played 51 games through 2010. 

While there, he was a two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year. 

He finished his Wolfpack career with 10,098 passing yards (second in program history), 82 passing touchdowns (first), 4,112 rushing yards (fifth), 59 rushing touchdowns (first), and 14,210 total yards (first). 

2. Frank Hawkins

Hawkins played running back for the Wolfpack from 1977 to 1980. During his career, he was a three-time first-team I-AA All-American, and the team retired his No. 27. 

He ran for 5,333 yards (first) and 39 touchdowns (sixth). 

He’s enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. 

3. Vai Taua

We just looked at the second signal-caller, and now, it’s the second running back. 

Taua ran for 4,588 yards (second) over his career from 2007 to 2010. 

He also had 45 rushing touchdowns (fourth).

Taua holds three of the top 10 single-season rushing records, including 1,610 in 2010 (fifth), 1,521 in 2008 (sixth), and 1,345 in 2009 (10th). 

He was a third-team All-American, three-time first-team All-WAC, and the 2008 Sporting News WAC Offensive MVP. 

4. David Neill

The second signal-caller on this list, Neill, was with Nevada from 1998 to 2001. 

He threw for 10,901 yards (first) and 73 touchdowns (fourth). He racked up 11,145 total yards (third) and holds the single-game passing yards record with 611 in 1998 against New Mexico State. 

5. Carson Strong

Finishing off this list is the third quarterback. 

Strong was with Nevada from 2018 to 2021. He had 9,379 passing yards (fourth), 74 passing touchdowns (third), and 9,074 total yards (fourth). 

His 36 passing touchdowns in 2021 are the most in a single Wolfpack campaign. 

He was a two-time Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and two-time first-team All-Mountain West.
