Over the course of college football history, there aren’t many teams that were more dominant than the Miami Hurricanes team that won the 2001 national championship.
Now, the Hurricanes’ football odds are available at BetMGM, where college football parlays can be crafted.
With so much history surrounding this program, I’ll list the top nine players below.

1. Ed Reed
For being a safety, Reed had an impact on the Miami Hurricanes that cannot be forgotten.
While there, he was a national champion (2001), co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year, a unanimous All-American, and a consensus All-American.
He leads Hurricanes history in interceptions with 21, is tied for second in a season with nine (2001), and is also third with eight in 2000.
Of his 21 interceptions, five were brought back for touchdowns, and he also blocked several punts on special teams.
Finally, Reed was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski Trophy before going on to build a Hall of Fame career in the NFL.
He’s enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
2. Gino Torretta
Some may argue that Ken Dorsey is the best quarterback in the Hurricanes’ history. While that’s a valid pick, Torretta was excellent.
He ranks fifth in passing yards (7,690), holds three of the top 10 records in single-game passing yards, is eighth in career passing touchdowns (47), and sixth in total offence (7,722).
In addition to the stats, Torretta had numerous accolades. He won two national championships, the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, was a unanimous all-American, and was a two-time Big East Player of the Year.
Torretta is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
3. Dan Morgan
Morgan is the best linebacker in program history.
He won the Dick Butkus Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Lambert Award, was a unanimous All-American, first-team All-Big East, the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
He has the most tackles in Hurricanes history with 532, 42 more than the next player on the list. He had 150 tackles in 1998 and 138 in 2000.
4. Ken Dorsey
Dorsey won the 2001 national title game and racked up other accolades like the Maxwell Award, two Archie Griffin Awards, two Quarterback of the Year honours, two Chic Harley Awards, and was a first- and second-team All-American.
Today, he ranks second in passing yards (9,565), first in passing touchdowns (86), second in total offence (9,486), and first in touchdowns responsible for (88).
His best season came as a senior with 3,369 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
5. Michael Irvin
Irvin is fondly remembered for his days with the Dallas Cowboys, but before entering the league, he had an excellent career with the Hurricanes.
Today, he ranks sixth in program history in receptions (143), fourth in receiving yards (2,423), and first in receiving touchdowns (26).
He was part of the 1987 national title team and was named an All-American three times.
His best season came in 1986, when he caught 53 passes for 868 yards and 11 touchdowns.
6. Warren Sapp
Over his career, Sapp racked up 176 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and had numerous forced fumbles and pass deflections. His best season came in 1994, when he had 84 tackles and 10.5 sacks.
Those 10.5 sacks rank tied for 10th all-time in a single season for the Hurricanes.
In 1994, he won the Lombardi Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Bill Willis Trophy, was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, a unanimous All-American, and was first-team All-Big East. He also finished sixth in the Heisman voting.
7. Bennie Blades
The Hurricanes have had several star-studded safeties come through their program, including Blades.
A national champion in 1987, Blades also won the Jim Thorpe Award and was a two-time unanimous All-American.
He’s second all-time in Hurricanes history in interceptions (19) and is tied for the single-season record with 10.
In his first season with the Hurricanes, he had four interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns.
8. Sean Taylor
My third safety on the list is Taylor. He played for the Hurricanes for three seasons and ranks fifth in interceptions (14) and is tied for the single-season record (10).
He was part of the 2001 national championship team and, in 2003, won the Jack Tatum Trophy, was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, a unanimous All-American, and a first-team All-Big East selection.
9. Ray Lewis
It was a tough choice between Morgan and Lewis, but I ultimately decided on Morgan. For the time, Lewis was a relatively undersized linebacker, but he exceeded those expectations with the Hurricanes.
He played just three seasons and received first-team and third-team All-American nods.
Lewis ranks sixth all-time in tackles with 388 and holds the top two spots for most tackles in a single season with 160 in 1995 and 152 in 1994.
