Memphis Tigers All-Time Greatest Football Players

1. DeAngelo Williams

Williams played running back for Memphis from 2002 to 2005. 

He ran for 6,026 yards (most in program history) and added 55 rushing scores (first). 

He holds three of the top five single-season rushing records, headlined by 1,964 yards in 2005, which is the program record. 

He broke his record after running for 1,948 yards in 2004. 

Additionally, he holds the single-game rushing record (263 yards in 2004) and single-season rushing touchdown record (22 in 2004) and is tied for the single-game rushing touchdown record (he ran for four touchdowns in three separate games in 2004). 

Williams holds the NCAA record for most games with 100-plus rushing yards (34). 

He was a first-team All-American, a third-team All-American, a three-time Conference USA Player of the Year, a three-time first-team All-Conference USA selection, and the program retired his No. 20 jersey. 

Williams is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. 

2. Dave Casinelli

A fullback for Memphis from 1960 to 1963, Casinelli ran for 2,636 yards (fourth) and 36 touchdowns (second). 

He became the first player in program history to lead the NCAA in a major stat category and won the rushing title in 1963. 

His No. 30 was retired by the school. 

3. Danton Barto

Barto played linebacker for Memphis from 1990 to 1993. 

He recorded 473 tackles (first).

Barto was first-team All-IFA twice, the IFA Defensive Player of the Year, and the school retired his No. 59. 

4. Isaac Bruce

Bruce played for Memphis in 1992 and 1993. 

He became the first Memphis receiver to crack 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, going for 1,054 in 1993. This was a single-season record until 2016. 

He also had 15 touchdowns, which ranks 10th in Memphis history. 

He was first-team All-IFA, and the school retired his No. 83.  

5. Harry Schuh

Schuh played offensive tackle for Memphis from 1962 to 1964.

He was a first and second-team All-American. 

Schuh’s No. 79 was retired by the program.
