Kennesaw State Owls All-Time Greatest Football Players

1. Chandler Burks

Burks played at Kennesaw State from 2015 to 2018. He threw for 3,638 yards (most in program history), 33 touchdowns (first), and ran for 2,813 yards (first) and 56 touchdowns (first). 

He racked up 6,451 total yards (first) and 89 total touchdowns (first). 

He was the Big South Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award (given to the best FCS player). 

2. Xavier Shepherd

Shepherd was also a quarterback for Kennesaw State. He played there from 2019 to 2022.

He threw for 2,544 yards (second), including 1,341 yards in 2021 (second). 

He had 23 passing touchdowns (second), 1,580 rushing yards (sixth), and 35 touchdowns (second). 

Shepherd also logged 4,124 total yards (second) and 58 total touchdowns (second). 

Shepherd was first-team All-Big South. 

3. Jonathan Murphy

Murphy was a quarterback at Kennesaw State from 2019 to 2023. 

He threw for 2,218 yards (third) for 16 touchdowns (third). 

He also ran for 1,740 yards (fifth) and 27 touchdowns (third). 

Murphy racked up 3,868 yards (third) and 43 touchdowns (third). 

4. Justin Sumpter

Sumpter was a wide receiver from 2015 to 2018.

Over his career, he caught 111 passes (first) for 1,989 yards (first) and 21 touchdowns (first). 

He holds single-season records in all of those categories, too, including 33 catches in 2017, 610 yards in 2017, and eight touchdowns in 2016. 

5. Darnell Holland

Holland played running back from 2015 to 2018.

He ran for 2,431 yards, including 949 yards in 2018 (third most in a single season). 

Holland also had 26 rushing touchdowns (fourth).

As a receiver, he had 35 catches (seventh) for 606 yards (seventh).
