Buffalo Bulls All-Time Greatest Football Players

1. Khalil Mack

Mack is the most dominant player to come out of Buffalo. 

He was a pass rusher there from 2009 to 2013, accumulating 28.5 sacks (the most in program history).

He was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, won the Jack Lambert Trophy (given to the best linebacker), was a first-team All-American, and three-time first-team All-MAC.

Mack was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s the only first-round NFL draft pick in Buffalo history. 

2. Jaret Patterson

Patterson played for the Bulls for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.

He ran for 3,884 yards (second), including 1,799 in 2019 (most in a single season). 

Not only that, but he holds the top three single-game rushing records, headlined by an astonishing 409 yards in a 2020 game against Kent State. 

He also ran for 52 touchdowns (first).

Patterson was the MAC MVP, MAC Offensive Player of the Year, MAC Freshman of the Year, 2019 Bahamas Bowl MVP, two-time first-team All-MAC, and second-team All-MAC. 

He’s also tied for the NCAA record with the most touchdowns scored in a game with eight. He also rushed for 409 yards in that game against Kent State. 

His final line in that game was 36 carries, 409 yards, and eight touchdowns. Buffalo won 70-41. 

3. Branden Oliver

Oliver played running back for Buffalo from 2010 to 2013. He ran for 4,049 yards (first), including 1,535 in 2013 (second most in a single season). 

He scored 33 touchdowns (third).

Oliver was first-team All-MAC in 2011 and 2013. 

4. Joe Licata

Licata is Buffalo’s all-time leader in passing yards (9,485), passing touchdowns (76), total yards (9,301), and total touchdowns (80). 

He played quarterback for the program from 2012 to 2014. 

In 2013, he led the school to an 8-5 record and the school’s second bowl appearance, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. 

In 2014, he threw 29 touchdowns, which remains a single-season Bulls record. 

5. Naaman Roosevelt

A wide receiver for the Bulls, Roosevelt played for Buffalo from 2006 to 2009.

He caught 268 passes (first) for 3,551 yards (first) and 28 touchdowns (second). 

In 2008, he caught 104 passes for 1,402 yards, and those are both single-season records. 

He was first and third-team All-MAC.
