The Baylor Bears football program was established in 1899, and while they’ve never won a national championship, they’re 14-12 in bowl games. Since 2018, they’ve been in four bowl games, and if you bet on their football odds, you would’ve come up about even as they went 2-2 in those games.

1. Robert Griffin III

Griffin III, also known as RG3, is easily the best player in Baylor history.

He played for the Bears from 2008 to 2011, and over that time, he had 10,366 passing yards (first), 78 passing touchdowns (first), 2,254 rushing yards (sixth), 33 rushing touchdowns (third), 12,620 total yards (first), and 111 total touchdowns (first).

In his final season, 2011, he completed 72.4% of his passes for 4,293 yards, 37 touchdowns, and six interceptions and ran 179 times for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns. 

That season, he won the Heisman Trophy, Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, Chic Harley Award, was the AP College Football Player of the Year, Sporting News Player of the Year, a consensus All-American, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team All-Big 12. 

He was also Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2008 and was second-team All-Big 12 in 2010. 

His elite dual-threat ability made him the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. 

2. Mike Singletary

Singletary had a nearly two-decade coaching career (2003 to 2020) after his pro football playing days (1981 to 1992), but before that, he played linebacker for the Bears from 1977 to 1980.

During his time there, he was a unanimous All-American, consensus All-American, two-time Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy winner, two-time SWC Player of the Year, and three-time first-team All-SWC. 

He’s the Chicago Bears’ all-time leader in tackles with 662 and holds the top three single-season records with 232 in 1978, 188 in 1979, and 145 in 1980. 

Singletary is enshrined in both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. 

3. Don Trull

Trull played for Baylor from 1961 to 1963, recording 41 touchdowns (eighth). He was a two-time Sammy Baugh Trophy recipient, a first-team All-American, a first-team All-SWC, and a second-team All-SWC selection.

After he left Baylor, Trull was the program leader in passing touchdowns and finished fourth in the 1963 Heisman Trophy voting. 

Trull was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013. 

4. Bill Glass

A center/defensive end for Baylor from 1954 to 1956, Glass was a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SWC. He also recorded 154 tackles in 10 games. 

Glass was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985 and was the No. 12 pick in the 1957 NFL Draft. 

5. Kendall Wright

Wright played at Baylor alongside RG3 from 2008 to 2011, and while there, he was a first-team All-American, first-team All-Big 12, and second-team All-Big 12. In his final season, he caught 108 passes for 1,663 yards and 14 touchdowns. 

Wright had 30 receiving touchdowns (second), 302 receptions (first), and 4,004 receiving yards (first). 

He also holds the single-season receptions record with 108. 

6. Corey Coleman

Coleman played at Baylor from 2012 to 2015. During that time, he was a unanimous All-American and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s best wide receiver. 

He finished his career with 173 receptions (seventh), 3,009 receiving yards (fifth), and 33 receiving touchdowns (first). In his final season, he caught 74 passes for 1,363 yards and 20 touchdowns. 

7. Terrance Williams

While at Baylor from 2008 to 2012, Williams was a unanimous All-American and first-team All-Big 12. 

Williams caught 202 passes (second) for 3,334 receiving yards (second) and 27 receiving touchdowns (fourth).

He also holds the single-game record for receptions, with 17 in 2012 against West Virginia, the single-game record for receiving yards, with 314 in that same game, and the single-season record in receiving yards, with 1,832 in 2012. 

8. Jay Finley

Finley had just 478 carries across four seasons at Baylor from 2007 to 2010, but while there, he had 2,660 rushing yards (fourth), 22 rushing touchdowns (eighth), and an average of 5.6 yards per carry. Finley had 195 carries for 1,218 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. 

Finley also ranks second in single-game rushing yards with 250 in 2010 against Kansas State.
