  • There are only three downs in the CFL, leading to more passing.
  • Teams in the CFL can score single points, also known as a “rouge.”
  • The CFL has 12 players on the field per team instead of 11.

While examining CFL odds at your favourite online sportsbook, have you ever considered how the CFL is better than the NFL?

Read below to see in which ways I believe the CFL is better than the NFL.

The Rules Indirectly Encourage More Passing

Due to there only being three downs instead of four, this invites more passing plays in the CFL game as they need to advance 10 yards for a first down with one fewer down in the NFL.

Further, the fields in the CFL are bigger. They’re 110 yards long and 65 yards wide; the end zones are 20 yards. As a result, each team has 12 players on the field instead of 11.

These characteristics facilitate an environment where passing is more common and a style I enjoy watching.

Additional Scoring Opportunities

This took some getting used to, but like changing the kickoff rules in the NFL, adding scoring rules such as the rouge in the CFL could make for an intriguing game.

In the CFL, teams can be awarded a single point when a kickoff or punt is kicked into the end zone and isn’t returned by the other team.
