Several players have gone from the CFL to the NFL. The most recent prominent example includes the New York Jets drafting cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers, No. 176 overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft. In 2023, he played for the Toronto Argonauts. 

As for historical examples, here’s a list of players who transitioned: 

  • Warren Moon played in the CFL from 1978 to 1983 before playing in the NFL from 1984 to 2000. He won five Grey Cups and was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He’s the only player in the Pro Football and Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
  • Doug Flutie played in the NFL from 1986 to 1989, the CFL from 1990 to 1997, and back in the NFL from 1998 to 2005. He won three Grey Cups in the CFL. 
  • Cameron Wake played for the BC Lions from 2007 to 2008 before signing with the Miami Dolphins. He was a two-time CFL All-Star, was an NFL first-team All-Pro, and went to five Pro Bowls.

Other players who switched from the CFL to the NFL include quarterback Joe Theismann, wide receiver Joe Horn, cornerback Brandon Browner, quarterback Joe Kapp, wide receiver Rocket Ismail, wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, and many more.
